Mechanism of action

Carotenoids are thought to provide health benefits in decreasing the risk of disease, particularly certain cancers and eye disease. Types of carotenoids are beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein, and zeaxanthin. the beneficial effects of carotenoids are thought to be due to their role as antioxidants. beta-Carotene may have added benefits due its ability to be converted to vitamin A. Furthermore, lutein and zeaxanthin may be protective in eye disease because they absorb damaging blue light that enters the eye.
Lycopene is a plant nutrient with antioxidant properties. It’s the pigment that gives red and pink fruits, such as tomatoes, watermelons and pink grapefruit, their characteristic color. Lycopene has been linked to health benefits ranging from heart health to protection against sunburns and certain types of cancers.
Vitamins: Vitamins are organic compounds required in minute quantities to sustain life. There are currently 13 recognized vitamins out of which B and C are water soluble and rest are fat soluble. Most vitamins need to come from food as human body does not produce enough of them, or it does not produce any at all. Each organism has different vitamin requirements. For example, humans need to consume vitamin C, or ascorbic acid and vitamin B as they are not synthesized in the body. They are also considered as microsomal enzymes which are essential to normal metabolism. Methylcobalamin or Vitamin B12:
  • Helps keep the nervous system and red blood cells healthy
  • Required for the formation of red blood cells and DNA
